Prof. Thomas Andreas MAURER

Biography:

Thomas Andreas Maurer is an Associate Professor of Finance at the HKU Business School, The University of Hong Kong. Before joining HKU in 2019, he was an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Olin Business School, Washington University in St. Louis from 2012 to 2019. Thomas earned his London School of Economics MSc in Finance and Economics degree in 2008 and his LSE PhD in Finance degree in 2012. During his PhD studies he has spent one year as a visiting scholar at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.His research contributions are in the area of theoretical and empirical asset pricing, international finance and household finance. He regularly serves as a committee member for academic conferences and as an academic referee for many major economics and finance journals. At HKU, Thomas is teaching classes on derivative securities to undergraduate students. In 2017, the graduating Master of Finance class at Wash U has chosen him as the best teacher and he was awarded the Reid teaching prize for the professor “whose enthusiasm and exceptional teaching most inspire, energize, and transform students”.

Prof. Charles Ramendran Spr Subramaniam

Biography:

Dr. Charles Ramendran SPR Subramaniam is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Business and Finance, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Malaysia. He holds a Ph.D. in Human Resource Management from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), a Master of Human Resource Management from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), and a Bachelor of Social Work Administration (Hons) from the same university. His research interests span law, human resource management, industrial relations, and social work; in recent years he has also ventured into interdisciplinary topics such as smart homes, smart buildings, and intelligent transportation. He served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Jaén, Spain, and concurrently supervises postgraduate students at the School of Business, SEGi University. Active in applied research on safety and health management, medical tourism, and public transport service quality, he has published extensively in international journals.

Prof. Nurul Shahnaz Ahmad Mahdzan

Biography:

Dr. Nurul Shahnaz Ahmad Mahdzan is a Professor and served as the Head at the Department of Finance, Faculty of Business & Economics, University of Malaya from 2019-2023. She obtained her PhD from the Nottingham University Business School, UK; MBA (with Distinction) from the University of Malaya; and BBA (Finance) (Summa Cum Laude) from Ohio University, USA. Her research passion is in the area of Consumer Finances, particularly on the issues of financial behaviour and economic psychology of households - this includes their financial literacy, financial well-being, fintech adoption, financial attitudes, saving behaviour, investment risk-taking behaviour, and gullibility to financial fraud victimisation. She also has an interest in studies related to the financial services industry, particularly in insurance and risk management.

Dr. An Nguyen

King’s Business School, King’s College London, UK

Biography:

Dr An Nguyen is a Lecturer in Human Resource Management at King’s Business School, King’s College London, which she joined in 2024. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. An is Deputy Programme Director for the MSc Global Human Resource Management. She designs and teaches across postgraduate modules, including Global and Comparative Human Resource Management, Research and Consulting Skills , and Strategic and Contemporary HRM, and contributes to undergraduate teaching on Introduction to Management course. She also supervises dissertations on the MSc Human Resource Management and Organisational Analysis programme. Her research focuses on Global HRM and Work and Employment, with particular interests in global and comparative HRM, the future of work (including AI in Education and HRM, and flexible working), and the sociology of work (including career aspirations, employability, and sustainable careers). She is a mixed-methods researcher, integrating quantitative, qualitative, and machine learning approaches in global contexts.
