Prof. Thomas Andreas MAURER

Biography:

Thomas Andreas Maurer is an Associate Professor of Finance at the HKU Business School, The University of Hong Kong. Before joining HKU in 2019, he was an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Olin Business School, Washington University in St. Louis from 2012 to 2019. Thomas earned his London School of Economics MSc in Finance and Economics degree in 2008 and his LSE PhD in Finance degree in 2012. During his PhD studies he has spent one year as a visiting scholar at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.His research contributions are in the area of theoretical and empirical asset pricing, international finance and household finance. He regularly serves as a committee member for academic conferences and as an academic referee for many major economics and finance journals. At HKU, Thomas is teaching classes on derivative securities to undergraduate students. In 2017, the graduating Master of Finance class at Wash U has chosen him as the best teacher and he was awarded the Reid teaching prize for the professor “whose enthusiasm and exceptional teaching most inspire, energize, and transform students”.

Prof. Charles Ramendran

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Malaysia

Biography:

Dr. Charles Ramendran SPR Subramaniam is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Business and Finance, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Malaysia. He holds a Ph.D. in Human Resource Management from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), a Master of Human Resource Management from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), and a Bachelor of Social Work Administration (Hons) from the same university. His research interests span law, human resource management, industrial relations, and social work; in recent years he has also ventured into interdisciplinary topics such as smart homes, smart buildings, and intelligent transportation. He served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Jaén, Spain, and concurrently supervises postgraduate students at the School of Business, SEGi University. Active in applied research on safety and health management, medical tourism, and public transport service quality, he has published extensively in international journals.

Prof. Luca Pezzo

University of New Orleans, US

Biography:

Dr. Luca Pezzo is an Associate Professor of Finance at the University of New Orleans. He earned his Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis – Olin Business School and holds both an M.S. in Finance and a B.A. in Business Administration from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.He teaches across undergraduate, master’s, MBA, and Ph.D. programs, offering courses in Investments, Portfolio Analysis, Derivatives Analysis, Statistics, and Econometrics. His research centers on asset-pricing theory and empirics, with particular attention to why theoretical prices diverge from observed market prices and how that gap shapes investment choices. Much of his work highlights the role of transaction costs—often ignored in theoretical models yet critical in practice—for markets ranging from highly liquid foreign exchange to comparatively illiquid real estate.

Prof. Ilias Filippou

Department of Finance, Florida State University’s College of Business, US

Biography:

Ilias Filippou is an assistant professor and Dean’s Emerging Scholar in the Department of Finance in Florida State University’s College of Business. Previously, he was at Olin Business School, Washington University in St. Louis and Warwick Business School. His research focuses on asset pricing, international finance and macro-finance and has been supported by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). He has also been a visiting scholar at the USC Marshall School of Business. He has received numerous honors and awards for his research and teaching, including Best Paper Awards from the FMA Consortium on Asset Management (2024), INQUIRE UK/INQUIRE EUROPE (2024), and the Finance Forum (2023), as well as the Outstanding Paper Award at the Chinese Finance Annual Meeting (2022). During his time at Warwick Business School, he was recognized with the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Teaching (2018) and the Teaching Excellence Award (2017).

Dr. Fandi Achmad

Oriel College, University of Oxford, UK

Biography:

Fandi Achmad is a DPhil candidate in International Development at Oriel College, University of Oxford. His research and professional experience focus on digital trade, the digital economy, technology policy, international trade, and digital industrialisation. He also recently engaged as a consultant to UNESCAP and the OECD on a research project examining digital trade regulatory restrictiveness across several Asian and African countries. Drawing on these experiences, his doctoral research seeks to investigate the channels through which digital trade affects the diffusion of digital technology in developing countries. Fandi holds a Bachelor in Economics Degree from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia, a Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan, USA, and a Master of Advanced Studies in Economics from KU Leuven, Belgium. He was also awarded as a Young Leaders for Indonesia by McKinsey & Co. in 2010.
